Manker E05 Copper: Stylish Pocket Pocket

I have several AA-size EDC flashlights that use premium metals, such as copper and brass, all of which have a wide beam character and high cri. Earlier I thought there would not be a flashlight similar to the highlight throw character, but the Manker E05 Cu (cu stands for cuprum, latin name for copper) changed my point of view.

Previously, Mankerlight has also released the E05 in aluminum and titanium body with the following specifications:

  • Emitter: 1x OSRAM KW CSLNM1.TG 6500K
  • Battery: 1x Manker 14500 rechargeable (included)
  • Clip: Stainless-steel deep carry pocket clip
  • Lens: Toughened ultra-clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating
  • Reflector: Smooth aluminum

Features:

  • Built-in tritium groove (on switch)
  • Lanyard hole
  • Tail-stand capability
  • Reverse polarity protection
  • 2 meters impact resistance
  • IPX-8 (2 meters underwater)

Dimension:

  • Length 92mm
  • Diameter 20mm

Simple operation:

  • From OFF, one click tail-switch to turn ON. One click again to turn OFF

Mode operation:

  1. 1. From ON, one half-click tail-switch to cycle through Low and High. Quick double half-click to activate hidden strobe. One click to turn OFF
  2. 2. From OFF. one click tail-switch to turn on Low mode. One click after this will turn the light OFF and one click to turn on High mode

Manker E05C Sales Package

  • 1x 14500 rechargeable lithium ion battery
  • 1x USB Type-C charging cable

Mankerlight was kind enough to include a 14500 3.7v lithium-ion battery which has a good performance, too. This battery has a capacity of 920 mAh, a maximum continuous discharge of 4A and a USB-C charging port. I am using this battery during review.

Light turns on RED when charging, turns GREEN when battery is full

Unlike other types of metal, copper has great appeal especially for its appearance. Many fans of every day carry have tools made of copper because of their patina. Brass or copper are getting patina which is a thin layer of corrosion that forms on the surface of copper and brass over time. It is caused by a chemical reaction between the metal and its environment, which can include air, water, and other substances.

The process of patination can occur naturally over a long period of time, or it can be accelerated by artificially introducing certain chemicals or conditions. For example, copper and brass objects can be treated with chemicals that react with the metal to create a patina, or they can be left outside to weather and develop a patina through exposure to the elements.

The color and appearance of the patina can vary depending on the specific conditions that caused it to form. For example, copper and brass objects that are exposed to moist air may develop a green patina due to the presence of copper carbonates, while those that are exposed to dry air may develop a brown or red patina due to the presence of copper oxide.

This explain the old-skool-look on the body of Manker E05 Cu. Here are a few photos to show how beautiful it is.

The machining looks great!

The pocket clip is sturdy and removable

a groove is available for one 1.5mm*6mm tritium vial

Nice looking patina

Lanyard hole

You may combine the flashlight with your other tools or even your daily outfit.

It can sit nicely in your pants' front pocket

...or, back pocket

...or, even in your shirt pocket (if you can withstand the weight)

The beam profile is a typical thrower as it is using OSRAM KW.CSLNM1.TG 6500K emitter combined with a quite deep smooth reflector. The hotspot is tight and a wide spill and corona visible, both in low and high mode. There is no PWM or flickering visible in both modes.

Manker E05 Cu is perfect for EDC

It gives you a great light with more throw

Manker E05 Cu can produced maximum beam intensity of 400 lumens and 250 meters of beam distance (only with a 14500 battery). With an AA battery, it can produced maximum beam intensity of 150 lumens and 160 meters of beam distance.

A tint comparison between (from L to R)
Reylight Pineapple, Manker E05, Acebeam Pokelit AA and Wurkkos TS10

All flashlights are turned on low mode and camera white balance is set to 5000K. Here is the emitter of each flashlight:
  • Reylight Pineapple Brass: Nichia 219B 4500K SW45K R9080
  • Manker E05 Cu: OSRAM KW.CSLNM1.TG 6500K
  • Acebeam Pokelit AA Cu: Nichia 519A 5000K R9080
  • Wurkkos TS10: Lattice Power CSP 4000K
Now, let's compare it with Reylight Pineapple. It uses the equipped 14500 battery. Beam profile is floody with a slight rosy high CRI tint.
